As we watch the life of Sarah drain away through the eyes of her fragmented mother we piece together the tragic path her daughter has chosen.
In this film we watch the story of Sarah, a young nurse struggling to deal with her mother's early-onset Alzheimer’s, through the eyes of her confused and somewhat disconnected parent, Alison. Sarah discovers a new treatment being carried out in which Alzheimer’s patients treated with "young blood". After Sarah fails to get her mother onto a trial, we observe her making the physical and emotional sacrifice of draining her own blood and attempting to transfuse it into her unwilling mother. Unable to keep track of the time of day, let alone anything else, Alison struggles to hold onto her independence, pushing her daughter away through the fear and embarrassment of role reversal between parent and child. As Sarah drains herself she becomes visibly weaker, while Alison appears stronger. As the film reaches it's climax we see Sarah's strength fail as she collapses and falls down the stairs. Alison rushes to help, but Sarah is no longer there. Alison discovers from her carer that Sarah died from head injuries years ago and in a lucid moment realises that she’s been recreating memories in her mind.
